Starwings verpflichten U20-Nationalspieler Zachary Biku

Die Starwings Basket verstärken ihren Kader für die kommende Saison mit dem Schweizer U20-Nationalspieler Zachary Biku. Der 21-jährige Biku (202 cm, Positionen 3 und 4) wechselt vom BBC Monthey-Chablais nach Birsfelden und wird künftig das Trikot der Starwings tragen.

Der 2,02 Meter grosse Athlet begann erst im Alter von 14 Jahren mit dem Basketball beim Grand-Saconnex Basketball Club. Nach einer durch die Covid-Pandemie verkürzten ersten Saison wechselte er zu Veyrier Salève Basket, wo er sich unter Trainer Michael Delaville kontinuierlich weiterentwickelte. Bereits in seiner zweiten Saison in Veyrier wurde er in die Genève Basketball Académie aufgenommen und konnte dort den nächsten Schritt in seiner sportlichen Entwicklung machen.

Anschliessend sammelte Biku wertvolle internationale Erfahrungen in Frankreich beim traditionsreichen Club Denain Voltaire. Dort spielte er sowohl in der französischen U18-Meisterschaft als auch im Nachwuchsprogramm der Pro B. Nach seiner Rückkehr in die Schweiz stand er während zwei Saisons für die Lions de Genève auf dem Feld und kam sowohl in der Nationalliga B als auch in der Swiss Basketball League zum Einsatz. Die vergangene Saison absolvierte er schliesslich für BBC Monthey-Chablais in der höchsten Schweizer Spielklasse.

In Monthey etablierte sich Biku als wichtiger Rotationsspieler und überzeugte insbesondere durch seine Energie, seine Reboundstärke (5,3 Rebounds pro Spiel) und seine defensive Präsenz. Auch im Nationaltrikot machte der gebürtige Genfer auf sich aufmerksam. An der FIBA U20 EuroBasket Division B 2025 gehörte er mit durchschnittlich 13,8 Punkten und 7 Rebounds pro Spiel zu den Leistungsträgern der Schweizer Auswahl. Zudem gewann er in der Saison 2024/2025 mit den Lions de Genève die Schweizer Meisterschaft sowie den Schweizer Cup.

Mit der Verpflichtung von Biku setzen die Starwings ihren Weg fort, auf junge Schweizer Spieler mit Entwicklungspotenzial zu setzen und ihnen Verantwortung auf höchstem nationalem Niveau zu übertragen.

Starwings Sign Swiss U20 International Zachary Biku

Starwings Basket have strengthened their roster for the upcoming season by signing Swiss U20 national team player Zachary Biku. The 21-year-old forward (202 cm, capable of playing both the 3 and 4 positions) joins the club from BBC Monthey-Chablais and will wear the Starwings jersey next season.

The 2.02-meter athlete began playing basketball at the age of 14 with Grand-Saconnex Basketball Club. After a first season that was cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic, he moved to Veyrier Salève Basket, where he continued his development under coach Michael Delaville. During his second season in Veyrier, he earned a place at the Genève Basketball Académie, taking an important step forward in his basketball journey.

Biku then gained valuable international experience in France with the historic club Denain Voltaire, where he competed both in the French U18 Championship and with the club’s Pro B development team. Upon returning to Switzerland, he spent two seasons with the Lions de Genève, playing in both the National League B and the Swiss Basketball League. Most recently, he suited up for BBC Monthey-Chablais in Switzerland’s top division.

In Monthey, Biku established himself as an important rotation player, impressing with his energy, rebounding ability (5.3 rebounds per game), and defensive presence. He has also made a name for himself on the international stage. At the 2025 FIBA U20 EuroBasket Division B, he was one of the key contributors for the Swiss national team, averaging 13.8 points and 7 rebounds per game. He also won the Swiss Championship and the Swiss Cup with the Lions de Genève during the 2024/25 season.

By signing Biku, the Starwings continue their commitment to developing talented young Swiss players and providing them with the opportunity to take on important roles at the highest national level.
