Erstmals seit der Saison 2007/08 beendet das Team die Qualifikation auf dem Podest – nun wartet mit Spinelli Massagno eine spannende Playoff-Serie
Die Starwings Basket haben letzten Samstag die reguläre Saison auf dem starken dritten Platz abgeschlossen. Damit gelingt dem Team erstmals seit der Saison 2007/08 wieder ein Podestplatz – hinter Fribourg Olympic und den Lions de Genève.
Nach einem schwierigen Saisonstart mit deutlichen Niederlagen gegen die beiden Spitzenteams steigerte sich die Mannschaft im Verlauf der Qualifikation markant. Mit zunehmender Dauer agierten die Starwings stabiler, strukturierter und selbstbewusster. Insbesondere die individuelle Entwicklung der Spieler sowie das verbesserte Zusammenspiel innerhalb des Teams waren unverkennbar und bilden die Grundlage für den Erfolg.
Dass die Starwings mittlerweile auch mit den besten Teams der Liga mithalten können, zeigten die jüngsten Auftritte eindrücklich: Gegen Fribourg lag man vor zwei Wochen im dritten Viertel in Führung, und auch im Duell mit Genf am vergangenen Mittwoch blieb die Partie bis in die Schlussphase offen.
Ausgeglichene Ausgangslage im Viertelfinal
Im Playoff-Viertelfinal trifft das Team nun auf Spinelli Massagno. Die Bilanz aus der Qualifikation ist ausgeglichen: Zwei Siege stehen zwei Niederlagen gegenüber. Allerdings traten die Tessiner in diesen Begegnungen nie in Bestbesetzung an, was die bevorstehende Serie schwer einschätzbar macht.
Dennoch dürfen sich die Zuschauerinnen und Zuschauer auf eine packende und ausgeglichene Serie freuen. Starwings finish the regular season in 3rd place
For the first time since 2007/08, the team ends the qualification phase on the podium – now a thrilling playoff series against Spinelli Massagno awaits.
The Starwings Basket finished the regular season last Saturday in a strong third place. This marks the team’s first podium finish since the 2007/08 season – behind Fribourg Olympic and the Lions de Genève.
After a difficult start to the season with heavy defeats against the two top teams, the squad improved significantly over the course of the qualification phase. As the season progressed, the Starwings played with greater stability, structure, and confidence. In particular, the individual development of the players as well as the improved team chemistry were clearly visible and formed the foundation for this success.
That the Starwings can now compete with the league’s best teams was impressively demonstrated in recent performances: against Fribourg, they held a lead in the third quarter two weeks ago, and in the matchup with Geneva last Wednesday, the game remained close until the final stages.
Evenly balanced quarterfinal matchup
In the playoff quarterfinals, the team will now face Spinelli Massagno. The record from the regular season is evenly split, with two wins and two losses each. However, the team from Ticino never fielded its full lineup in those games, making the upcoming series difficult to predict.
Nevertheless, fans can look forward to an exciting and closely contested series. The Starwings enter the playoffs with strong confidence and a clearly upward trend – and they have the potential to create excitement and possibly even pull off an upset.
